Josh Svaty, who today announced his bid for governor, has an anti-choice voting record as a former Kansas legislator.
The Democratic Party platform clearly states: “We believe unequivocally, like the majority of Americans, that every woman should have access to quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion — regardless of where she lives, how much money she makes or how much she is insured.”
Mr. Svaty’s voting record conflicts with the Party’s platform, and his anti-choice stance does not represent the majority of Kansans.
Our own canvassing, as well as polling by other organizations, shows that Kansans believe in a woman’s right to abortion care, even if that is not a decision they would make personally. It is troubling, and disappointing, that an anti-choice former legislator now wants to lead our state.
Kansas needs someone in the governor’s office who supports a woman’s constitutional right to abortion care. Kansas needs change after six failed years of leadership under Gov. Sam Brownback — not more of the same.
